How to Buy from Weidian: Step-by-Step Guide 2026
Last updated: March 2026 By the FINDS team — we have ordered from Weidian hundreds of times
Weidian is one of China's largest mobile-first marketplaces, and it has become a go-to platform for fashion finds that you simply cannot get anywhere else. While Taobao gets most of the international attention, Weidian quietly hosts millions of sellers offering unique items — often at lower prices.
The catch? Weidian is almost entirely in Chinese, designed primarily for mobile users within China, and does not ship internationally. That is where buying agents come in. In this guide, we walk you through everything: what Weidian is, how to search for items, how to order through an agent, and when Weidian is a better choice than Taobao.

What Is Weidian and How Is It Different from Taobao
Weidian (微店, literally "micro store") launched in 2014 as a mobile-first marketplace aimed at small businesses and individual sellers. Think of it as China's answer to Etsy or Shopify, but at massive scale — the platform hosts millions of stores.
Key Differences from Taobao
Lower seller fees. Weidian charges sellers less than Taobao, which means lower prices for buyers. Many sellers operate on razor-thin margins, passing savings directly to customers.
Mobile-first design. Weidian was built for smartphones. The desktop experience exists but is secondary. Most sellers manage their stores entirely from their phones.
Smaller, independent sellers. While Taobao has everything from individual sellers to major brands, Weidian skews heavily toward small operations — home businesses, direct factory outlets, and niche specialists.
Less buyer protection. Taobao has robust dispute resolution systems. Weidian's protections are thinner, which is another reason why ordering through an agent (who provides QC photos and dispute support) is strongly recommended.
Different product strengths. Weidian excels at fashion, streetwear, and accessories. Some categories are better served by Taobao or 1688, but for clothing and shoes, Weidian often has the best selection.

How to Access Weidian as an International Buyer
You can browse Weidian through the mobile app or the website (weidian.com). Neither requires a Chinese phone number to browse, but purchasing directly requires Chinese payment methods — which is why agents are essential.
Browsing on Desktop
Go to weidian.com in your browser. The interface is in Chinese, but Chrome's built-in translation works reasonably well. You can search using Chinese keywords or paste product links you have found from communities and forums.
Browsing on Mobile
Download the Weidian app (微店) from the App Store or Google Play. You may need to change your store region, or on Android, sideload the APK. The app is more feature-complete than the website but requires basic navigation skills since it is entirely in Chinese.
The Practical Reality
Most international buyers do not browse Weidian directly. Instead, they find Weidian links shared in communities (Reddit, Discord, forums) and paste those links into their buying agent. This is the most efficient workflow, and it is exactly how we operate at FINDS.
How to Search for Items on Weidian
Finding specific items on Weidian requires a different approach than Taobao.
Method 1: Chinese Keyword Search
Type Chinese keywords into the Weidian search bar. Use Google Translate to convert your search terms. For example, "men's down jacket" translates to 男士羽绒服. The search results will show listings from various sellers ranked by relevance.
Method 2: Image Search
Weidian has a basic image search feature in the mobile app. Tap the camera icon in the search bar to upload a photo. Results are less accurate than Taobao's image search but still useful for common items. For better image search techniques, check our guide on How to Reverse Image Search on Taobao — many of the principles apply.
Method 3: Community Links (Most Common)
The most popular method is finding Weidian links shared by other buyers. Fashion communities regularly post find lists with direct Weidian links. These are often curated selections from trusted sellers, saving you the effort of searching blind.
Method 4: Store Browsing
Once you find a good Weidian seller, browse their entire store. Good sellers often carry a wide range of related items. Bookmark their store link for future reference. Many experienced buyers have a list of trusted Weidian stores they check regularly for new arrivals.
Step-by-Step: How to Order from Weidian Through an Agent
Here is the complete process from finding an item to having it shipped to your door.
Step 1: Copy the Weidian Product Link
When you find an item on Weidian, copy the product URL. On the website, copy it from your browser's address bar. On the app, use the share function to copy the link. Weidian links typically look like: weidian.com/item.html?itemID=XXXXXXXXX
Step 2: Paste the Link Into Your Agent
Go to your buying agent's website. We recommend ACBuy for beginners — see our full ACBuy Beginners Guide. Paste the Weidian link into the agent's search bar. The agent will pull up the product listing with translated information.
Step 3: Select Your Options
Choose your size, color, and quantity. If the agent's translation is unclear, cross-reference with the original Weidian listing. Pay special attention to sizing — check the measurement chart rather than trusting letter sizes. Our guide on How to Read a Taobao Listing applies to Weidian listings as well.
Step 4: Add to Cart and Pay
Add the item to your agent cart. You can add items from multiple sellers and platforms (Weidian, Taobao, 1688) into the same cart. When ready, checkout and pay. Most agents accept PayPal, credit cards, and other international payment methods.
Step 5: Wait for Warehouse Arrival
The agent places the order with the Weidian seller. The seller ships the item to the agent's warehouse in China. This typically takes 3-7 days, though some sellers ship faster. Your agent dashboard will update with tracking information.
Step 6: Review QC Photos
Once the item arrives at the warehouse, your agent takes quality check (QC) photos and uploads them to your dashboard. Review these carefully — check for correct size, color, any defects, and overall quality. This is your chance to catch problems before the item ships internationally.
Step 7: Decide: Ship, Return, or Exchange
If the item looks good, approve it for international shipping. If there is a problem, you can request a return (if the seller allows it) or an exchange. For a detailed guide on the return process, see our How to Return Items Through Your Agent post.
Step 8: Ship Your Package Internationally
When all items in your warehouse are approved, submit a shipping request. Choose your shipping line based on speed, cost, and destination. Package your items into one shipment (or split if needed — see our haul splitting guide). Pay for international shipping, and wait for delivery.
Evaluating Weidian Sellers: What to Look For
Since Weidian has less buyer protection than Taobao, evaluating sellers is even more important.
Store Rating
Weidian stores display a rating from 0 to 5 stars. Look for stores with 4.5 stars or higher. Below 4.0 is a significant risk. The rating is visible on the store page and usually on individual product listings.
Sales Volume
Check how many items the store has sold. Higher volume generally indicates a more reliable seller. A store with thousands of completed transactions is much safer than one with just a handful.
Buyer Reviews with Photos
Photo reviews are your best friend on Weidian. They show you exactly what previous buyers received. Compare these real photos to the listing images. Significant differences between listing photos and buyer photos are a red flag.
Store Age
Newer stores (under 6 months old) are riskier. Established stores have more history and reputation to protect. Check the store information page for the registration date.
Return Policy
Look for stores that accept returns (7天退换, meaning 7-day return/exchange). Stores with no-return policies should be approached with more caution, especially for first-time purchases from that seller.
Weidian vs Taobao: When to Use Which
Both platforms have their strengths. Here is a quick decision guide.
Choose Weidian When:
- You are looking for budget-friendly fashion and streetwear.
- You have found a specific Weidian link from a trusted community source.
- You want access to small, niche sellers not available on Taobao.
- You are building a haul and want to maximize value per item.
Choose Taobao When:
- You need broader buyer protection and dispute resolution.
- You want to use image search to find items (Taobao's is superior).
- You are buying non-fashion items (electronics, home goods, etc.).
- You prefer browsing a more established, feature-rich platform.
Use Both
Many experienced buyers use both platforms. They search Taobao for convenience and buyer protection, then check Weidian for the same items at potentially lower prices. Using both through the same agent means all items end up in one warehouse for combined shipping.
Common Weidian Problems and Solutions
Links Not Loading in Agent
Some Weidian links use a shortened format that agents cannot parse. Try accessing the full URL by opening the link in a browser first, letting it redirect, and then copying the final URL. Some agents also have a "manual order" option where you can provide the product details if the link does not auto-load.
Item Shown as "Out of Stock" After Ordering
Weidian sellers sometimes do not update their stock levels in real time. If your agent reports that the item is out of stock after placing the order, they will issue a refund to your agent balance. Unfortunately, this is a common occurrence on Weidian and something to be prepared for.
Seller Does Not Ship
Some Weidian sellers have longer processing times than Taobao sellers. While Taobao sellers typically ship within 1-3 days, Weidian sellers may take 5-7 days or longer. If a seller has not shipped after 7-10 days, ask your agent to contact them or cancel the order.
QC Photos Show a Different Item
If the item you receive at the warehouse does not match the listing, request a return through your agent. This is more common on Weidian than Taobao due to the platform's looser seller standards. Always review QC photos carefully before approving international shipment.
No Size Chart Available
Some Weidian listings lack detailed size charts. In this case, check the comments section for sizing feedback from other buyers, or ask your agent to contact the seller for measurements before ordering. Ordering without measurements is a gamble.
Tips for Successful Weidian Shopping
Build a Trusted Seller List
When you find a seller who delivers quality items, save their store link. Over time, you will build a personal network of reliable Weidian sellers that you can return to repeatedly.
Check Multiple Stores for the Same Item
The same product is often sold by multiple Weidian sellers at different prices. Before ordering, search for the same item across a few stores. Compare prices, ratings, and reviews to find the best deal.
Order Small First
For your first order from a new seller, buy one or two items rather than loading up. This lets you assess quality without significant financial risk. If the items are good, you can order more confidently next time.
Use the Agent's Notes Feature
When placing an order, use your agent's order notes to specify exactly what you want — size, color, and any special requests. Clear communication prevents ordering mistakes. Some agents also let you attach screenshots for clarity.
Time Your Orders Wisely
Avoid ordering during major Chinese holidays (Chinese New Year in January/February, Golden Week in October, and 11.11 Singles' Day). During these periods, sellers and shipping carriers experience massive delays.
Getting Started with Weidian Today
Weidian opens up a world of fashion finds at competitive prices. While it requires a bit more effort than Taobao — less English support, fewer buyer protections, and a mobile-centric design — the rewards are worth it for dedicated shoppers.
The easiest way to start is to find Weidian links from trusted community sources and paste them into your agent. As you get comfortable, you can start browsing stores directly and building your own list of trusted sellers.
